What can 20 women of the Bible teach us about different topics every woman faces in her life? This women's Bible study contrasts two biblical women in each of the 10 lessons. Rebekah and Rahab offer opposing beliefs in God's sovereignty. Job's Wife and the Woman of Shunem offer both good and bad ways of trusting God's goodness. Jezebel and Deborah contrast with each other on how to use God's power and influence. Other topics covered are prayer, forgiveness, obedience, honesty, temptation, jealousy and practicing God's presence. This Bible study has questions to answer along with commentary, drawing each student into truth and a greater ability to make godly choices. Both individuals and groups can use this Bible study.

Which lady do you want to be like from the Bible? Would it be the well-known sisters from New Testament times, Mary or Martha? Maybe your preference would be one of the Old Testament women. Now those were some tough ladies, living without most of the comforts – or rights - that we enjoy.

‘Choices of the Heart’ is a unique Bible study for busy women about women in the Bible who are just like us. This is a ten-week series that can be used in a group or solo that helps us see ourselves through the actions of several ladies in Scripture and how we are alike. The author keeps it real, inviting our opinions and allowing the opportunity to search the Bible and think about the questions asked. There are no wrong answers; the author does share a bit about each of the ladies in relation to the time and culture they lived in. There are two women in each lesson whose reactions to similar circumstances are shown; most often one has the right reaction and the other, a reaction harmful to themselves or others. It was a blessing to be re-introduced to these women. Many women might discover some of these women for the first time, so it welcomes the new sister in Christ as well as one who has done some women’s studies.

The first lesson offers questions that can be considered throughout the study. “…the real question is, why do bad things happen to me? .... if nothing challenging or bad occurred in your life. Would you need God? Would you grow emotionally or spiritually? Ask yourself, when have I been closer to God and become a better person? Usually, we come by such closeness while we are in the midst of difficult circumstances.” (page 17). Thus sets the stage that introduces us to Rebekah, wife of Isaac and mother to Jacob and Esau, and Rahab, a prostitute, who assisted the Israelite spies escape from Jericho unhindered.

The Bible student learns how one can respond to crises with faith and trust in the Lord, see the kind of woman who can be used by the Lord, and how we can seek the His help when we choose obedience. We learn about the right use of our abilities, how to respond to temptations such as jealousy, and practicing the presence of God whether sitting at His feet or doing our daily routine.

Some of the things I liked about this study include how the author helps us see our own behaviors and God’s grace. I could also see some of the women in a different light. While some choices they made were wrong, all had a chance to make better choices in the future. The consequences of some of the wrongs were lifelong, but so is God’s mercy. No matter where we have been or what we have done, we all have opportunity for forgiveness. We can learn how to be better women of God, and isn’t that what we want to glean from a Bible study? The lessons are just the right length to get through within a normal week, as I found I could do one-half of each lesson in an evening. The ebook format allowed me to insert the answers from my laptop.

If I had the opportunity, I would definitely do another one of Kathy Collard Miller’s Bible studies based on my experience with this one! I highly recommend it to any woman, or even older teens, who want to learn more about walking with our Lord.

From a grateful heart: I was given the book by Book Fun (The Book Club Network) and here is my honest review.

Choices Of The Heart Kathy Collard Miller Books Reviews

I am using this for a Women's Bible Study..love Kathy Miller!!
I was so excited about this book that I chose it for our ladies Fellowship this year. As we can apply the lives of women in the Bible to ours today is a special testament to God's hand on this work. I hope we can look forward to more of this kind of work.
I really enjoyed this bible study on people of the Bible. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a bible study that studies various areas and people of the Bible. I was given a free copy of this book from Bookfun in exchange for my honest review.
This is a great bible study using different women from the Bible. The author gives you two different women from the bible for several different situations, and how they responded the right way or the wrong way.

I definitely would recommend this book.

I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher through TBCN/BookFun in exchange for my honest review.
I wanted a study I could do with my four daughters and this perfect. I love the chapter on the Shunammite woman and Job's wife. I can so relate to wanting to surrender to God and wanting to run the show at the same time! It also challenged me to redefine my definition of the goodness of God. Is He good when He does want I want or when He does what is best for me? This study pulls you in right away with the stories of woman we think we know well then challenges your assumptions and makes you dig deeper. Highly recommend.
Beautifully written. Can be used for bible study but I really enjoyed it at home as a personal study.
Loved the layout of this book. Each lesson has a specific topic that follows through to questions that are very thought provoking. You also have bible verses to look up based on each lesson. After each lesson there is a letter that is very special.
I really enjoyed how everything is layed out for the lay person. Very insightful and and inspirational taking on life situations for women of the bible into today's struggles for women.
I recieved this book from The BookClub Network for an honest review.
Choices of the Heart by Kathy Collard Miller is a Daughters of the King Bible Series. This ten-lesson Bible Study is for individuals or groups. These interesting and informative lessons focus on well-known women of the Bible like Rebekah, Rahab, Bathsheba, Miriam, and Hannah and lesser known ones like the Woman of Shunem, and the Samaritan woman. The lessons explore trusting God’s goodness, forgiveness, obeying God’s plan, praying powerfully, honesty, jealousy, discontent and more.
Scripture-based questions guide reflection and other in-depth questions and personal exercises are helpful. The author includes a fictional letter from the heavenly Father to his daughter based upon the truths of the lesson for each session. These lessons are good for daily or weekly personal devotional study. I recommend this book for those who would like to learn more about the women of the Bible.
